The UN Country Team is led by the UN Resident Coordinator who takes the lead on common issues that require us to speak with one voice and present a common UN position. He also promotes joint decision-making among the UNCT.

Resident Coordinators, who are funded and managed by UNDP, lead UN country teams in more than 130 countries and are the designated representatives of the Secretary-General for development operations. Working closely with national governments, Resident Coordinators and country teams advocate the interests and mandates of the UN system while drawing on the support and guidance of the entire UN family.

The UN Resident Coordinator for Somalia is Peter de Clercq. Mr. de Clercq also assumes the functions of Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalila and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme.

Resident Coordinator’s office

The UN Resident Coordinator's Office provides direct support to the UN Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team, including advisory, technical, organizational and management support. Coordinating development and humanitarian operations promotes more strategic support for national plans and priorities, makes operations more efficient and reduces transaction costs for governments. This helps us to be a more relevant and reliable partner.
